Constitutional Demarcation: A Research Fabric is a bounded epistemological architecture. Structural formulation, digital execution, and proof-assistant replay declare local invariants; they do not constitute unverified physical validation.
Research / Engineering Question
Can a deliberately shaped plasma/interface topology improve controllability and energy-transfer integration between a plasma reaction region and downstream thermal or direct-conversion systems?
Architecture
The reference TOPRI architecture contains:
- plasma reaction volume;
- upper and lower controlled interface regions;
- magnetic-field shaping elements;
- vacuum/gas-management systems;
- high-temperature structural vessel;
- diagnostics and real-time control;
- high-temperature heat exchange;
- downstream turbine/generator or other conversion interface.
The programme's defining object is the interface architecture: it focuses on how plasma state, field geometry, transport and extraction surfaces are organized together.
Core Invariants
- conservation and energy-accounting closure;
- bounded heat flux at material interfaces;
- controlled pressure/gas state;
- field and plasma state remain observable through diagnostics;
- structural/material limits cannot be exceeded by control logic;
- input power, plasma power, recovered thermal power and net electrical output must remain separately reported.
Evidence & Status
The current reference model labels TOPRI at TRL 4 and identifies a 5 MW continuous-fire FAT as a next maturity gate.
A dossier figure also presents a 100 MWe / approximately 300 MWth reference model. These are design-model parameters, not demonstrated output.
Public Status Boundary
TOPRI is an engineering research architecture. It is not evidence of a 100 MWe operating reactor or a validated net-energy system. Any gain, efficiency, continuous-operation or commercial-plant claim must be tied to measured and independently reviewable test data.
Research / Implementation Path
- close plasma/interface governing requirements;
- validate magnetic/topological control in a bounded test article;
- quantify heat and particle fluxes;
- qualify materials and cooling interfaces;
- perform continuous-fire endurance testing;
- close energy balances and uncertainty;
- only then advance to integrated thermal/power conversion.
